Gas, electric and solid fuel fires
Inset, hole-in-the-wall or built into a media wall. Which fuel makes sense depends far less on preference than on what your house can actually take — and that is a survey question, not a showroom one.
Every consultation starts with the same question, so here is our honest position. Solid fuel gives you the real thing, but it needs a sound lined flue, an adequate hearth, dedicated ventilation on most modern appliances and somewhere dry to keep wood. Gas is the pragmatic middle — instant, controllable, genuinely convincing on a good high-efficiency unit, and available as a balanced flue model that needs no chimney at all. Electric asks almost nothing of the building beyond a socket.
Efficiency has moved a long way. Glass-fronted high-efficiency gas fires push heat into the room rather than up the chimney, and Ecodesign solid fuel appliances burn dramatically cleaner than a stove from 2005 while also giving convected heat.
